Lammergeier Bearded Vulture Juvenile shot full frame with a Nikon D3x and a Nikkor 600mm Prime Lens.
This image I shot back in 2009 on a trip to the Lammergeier (Bearded Bulture) hide situated on the mountain top at Giants Castle in the Drakensberg. I was with two good photography friends and boy oh boy did we have a bumper weekend of Bearded Vulture photography.
When I saw this image in may catalogs after the weekend I just fell in love with it’s simplicity. At that point in time I used to spend a lot of time on photography forums and of course the status quo from everyone and sundry on photography forums (as everyone is a “pro” of course) would be comments like “why did you cut off the wings” …. or “you should have left more space around the bird” and all sorts of nonsense like that. I never ever paid much attention to most of the comments as I believe photography to be what you see as a photographer not what some other photographer wants you to see.
I loved it and THAT WAS THAT.
I later went on to enter this into two birding and wildlife competitions and this image won first prize in both which went to show that all the above was total garbage.
For some reason this image popped into my mind yesterday afternoon, probably while watching animal planet or something like that and I thought first thing this morning I would dig it out and bring it back to light and I hope you enjoy it.
This image can be ordered in print on a variety of Hahnemule, Epson and Other Fine Art Papers and Canvas’. It can also be licensed (RM/RF) by contacting me on image@mitchellkrog.com with IMAGE REF NO: ZAX9118GC or simply click the BUY PRINT button below to order it online now.
